Dr. Alysia Lillian, MD, MPH
I am a physician, global health researcher, and holistic wellness educator dedicated to reshaping the future of women’s health through storytelling, strategy, and soul. My journey began in conventional medicine: I studied Biochemistry at Georgetown University, earned my MD from George Washington University School of Medicine—where I was honored with the Global Health Services Award for my research in medical anthropology—and completed my MPH at UC Berkeley with a focus on Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health. My dissertation explored epigenetics and childhood trauma, which laid the foundation for the work I do today.
After serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic, I reached what many would call the pinnacle of medical success—but inside, I was unraveling. Years of anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalances, nervous system dysregulation, and chronic gut issues had gone unhealed by Western medicine. It took a near-death experience under routine care to awaken me to the truth: healing had to come from within, and through modalities that honored the body, the psyche, and the soul.
Over the next several years, I immersed myself in the study of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Bhutan, Ayurveda, Curanderismo in Oaxaca, yogic philosophy, sound healing, herbalism, hypnosis, and integrative health. I began to understand the connection between trauma, ritual, epigenetics, and disease—and more importantly, how we can reprogram these patterns.
Today, I help women reclaim agency over their health through a blend of ancestral wisdom and cutting-edge science. I’ve healed my own chronic symptoms, left the medical system that once defined me, and created A Black Woman’s Apothecary—an educational and spiritual platform offering women the tools to reconnect with their bodies and cyclical wisdom.
I also consult with wellness brands, digital platforms, and media organizations to develop inclusive, evidence-informed health content, products, and user experiences. My work is rooted in psychoneuroimmunology, public health, and culturally grounded storytelling, with a strong focus on BIPOC women’s health, ritual, and holistic healing.
Whether you’re looking to collaborate on editorial content, digital education, product innovation, or healing-centered storytelling—I’m here to help you shape the future of women’s health.
My Method
A holistic approach to women’s health. This is root cause healing that starts with you and works it’s way through your lineage and DNA.
Western Medicine Frameworks
With my training as a physician and public health researcher, I translate complex medical frameworks into practical resources women can use every day. I educate on hormone regulation, gut health, immune balance, and mental well‑being, drawing on evidence‑based medicine alongside lifestyle, nutrition, and preventive care. My goal is to help women access reliable health information and tools that support long‑term vitality, not just quick fixes, especially for those who’ve felt unseen or undervalued in medical spaces.
Epigenetics
Epigenetics focuses on the idea that our environment influences our gene expression making us more susceptible to certain illnesses and diseases. I integrate the science of epigenetics into women’s health and healing by helping people understand how their lifestyle, environment, and daily choices influence gene expression. I empower women to optimize their genetic potential and break free from patterns of imbalance. This approach not only fosters immediate well-being, but also supports long-term health and vitality for future generations.
Afro-Indiginous Wisdom
I posses a rare gift for understanding what rituals, practices, and recommendations can be best utilized to support women in their necessary transformations. I create a personalized approach to women’s health and healing by blending integrative, Ayurvedic, traditional, herbal, and Western medicine practices. By uniting these systems, I empower women to embrace their unique constitution and achieve harmony in mind, body, and spirit for sustainable health and vitality.
