Dr. Alysia Lillian, MD, MPH

A woman with dark curly hair lying on her side, looking into the camera with a soft expression.

I received my formal education from Georgetown University in Biochemistry and my medical degree from George Washington University School of Medicine where I received the global health services award for my medical anthropology research. I then went on to obtain a Master of Public Health from University of California, Berkeley in Maternal, Child, and Adolescent Health where I conducted my dissertation research on epigenetics and childhood trauma.

As a medical doctor working on the front lines of COVID-19, I had finally reached my dream that I set for myself at 14 years old. But in the exact moment I reached it and everything seemed good, I never felt more out of alignment in my life. Throughout medical school and residency, I struggled with anxiety, depression, hormonal imbalances, nervous system disorders, and chronic gut issues that seemed to consume all of my time and energy.

Throughout my medical training, I tried everything Western medicine had to offer me from surgical interventions to antidepressants, but nothing seemed to fix the underlying issues that haunted my daily experience. It was during a near-death experience with morphine overdose during a routine procedure that I finally woke up. I realized that this was not the path to MY healing and I needed to explore other healing modalities. My journey began exploring Traditional Chinese Medicine in Bhutan and eventually spread to Ayurvedic training and yogic philosophy. I immersed myself in herbalism, yoga teacher trainings, hypnosis therapy, integrative medicine, ancestral practices and nutritional health in all of my free time throughout my Western medical training.

My anthropological studies of Curanderismo in the region of Oaxaca, Mexico led me to public health school where I focused on researching epigenetics and the new waves of research that related trauma experiences to health, and something clicked. I began to understand the intersection between psychoneuroimmunology and the psychospiritual relationship our body has and my understanding of health grew to encompass all practices of being including daily rituals, food, spiritual practices, and soul-aligned living. I learned medical astrology and human design to support my understanding of ancestral imprinting. As my knowledge grew, my understanding of my own health struggles reframed, and since I have healed my gut, hormonal imbalances, nervous system dysregulations, and mood disorders.

It was this realization and physician burnout that prompted me to leave my career as a medical doctor and completely pivot into a life that is ritualistic, soul-aligned, and free from illness. I believe the new wave of preventive medicine is in the merging of Western and Eastern medicine, and my approach to wellness entails reaching spiritual, emotional, ancestral and physical alignment. I now teach women in intense careers, or out of alignment with their soul paths to find alignment and vitality through practices that specifically support them and their journeys. I weave in medical astrology and human design wisdom to teach women to reprogram their epigenetic imprints, by reconnecting to their purpose and aligning their psychospiritual axis with that of true health. I am also the Founder of A Black Woman's Apothecary - an online resource for women to find holistic living advice and content.

I am deeply interested in the intersection between health and BIPOC women, ritualistic practices, sustainability, medical astrology, human design, regenerative agriculture, functional medicine, food as medicine, epigenetics, and early identification of disease to combat our global health crisis of chronic illness.

I would be honored to connect with you. My Method

A small round wooden bowl filled with loose leaf tea and dried herbs on a rustic wooden table.

A holistic approach to epigenetic change. This is root cause healing that starts with you and works it’s way through your lineage and DNA.

Medical Astrology and Human design

I blend spirituality, medical astrology, and human design to help women uncover personalized paths to healing and balance. By using medical astrology, I identify areas of susceptibility and energetic patterns that are generational embodiments of disease. This wisdom can guide self-care practices, recommendations, and approaches to major health changes at the root of disease. Human design reveals each woman’s unique blueprint for decision-making and alignment. Together, these tools provide a holistic framework that empowers women to reconnect with their innate wisdom and create health strategies that honor their individuality.

Epigenetics

Epigenetics focuses on the idea that our environment influences our gene expression making us more susceptible to certain illnesses and diseases. I integrate the science of epigenetics into women’s health and healing by helping people understand how their lifestyle, environment, and daily choices influence gene expression. I empower women to optimize their genetic potential and break free from patterns of imbalance. This approach not only fosters immediate well-being, but also supports long-term health and vitality for future generations.

Afro-Indiginous Wisdom

I posses a rare gift for understanding what rituals, practices, and recommendations can be best utilized to support women in their necessary transformations. I create a personalized approach to women’s health and healing by blending integrative, Ayurvedic, traditional, herbal, and Western medicine practices. By uniting these systems, I empower women to embrace their unique constitution and achieve harmony in mind, body, and spirit for sustainable health and vitality.
